"When fear consumes you, and evil threatens you, call his name — and he shall rise from the darkness like the piercing flame of war. Put your heart into your prayers, and he'll hear you. Have faith that there is hope, even in this hellish nightmare." ~ Words from a survivor

Description

Crimson Wanderer

Default form of the Crimson Wanderer.

Crimson Wanderer

The Crimson Wanderer is a mysterious warrior of outstanding strength and skill, feared for his deadly power yet revered as a hero by many. He is widely considered to be one of, if not the most dangerous humanoid entity in The Backrooms, surmounting one of the highest kill counts ever recorded.

The Crimson Wanderer's default form appears as an armored knight standing over two meters tall, wearing an old worn red cape. He carries a claymore on his back, but often drags it across the floor, creating a loud screeching noise as he does so. His total weight, including his armor and weapon, is estimated to be about 0.5 metric tons. Currently, the appearance of the Crimson Wanderer beneath his armor is uncertain, as he has never been seen without his helmet or any other part of his armor. Regardless, the armor is known to be inhabited, as The Crimson Wanderer has been shown to bleed in response to heavy damage. There are many theories which connect the Crimson Wanderer with the Crimson Heart from the Treasures of the Void, but solid evidence of such a connection is yet to be uncovered.

Behaviors

Despite being a singular entity, the Crimson Wanderer is highly infamous and notorious, primarily due to his extremely violent tendencies. He will persistently pursue monsters across The Backrooms before slaughtering them. However, he does not attack blindly and only targets those that threaten the welfare of the larger Backrooms. This includes humans as well if they are deemed too hostile. Many are often surprised by his self-awareness and ability to communicate — traits which are uncommon for most entities. Despite this, however, the Crimson Wanderer will rarely communicate with others; and when he does, his demeanor is cold, stoic and cynical. Regardless, he does indeed have empathy and sympathy towards those he protects.

In his default form, the Crimson Wanderer is calm and collected. He only attacks if provoked, or violence is deemed a necessary solution to the problem at hand. If he sustains heavy damage or finds himself facing a much stronger opponent, he will then transform into his true form. It is advised not to communicate with him and to keep your distance during this state, as he becomes much more violent and primal.

Biology

Currently, there is not yet concrete evidence regarding the nature of the Crimson Wanderer's being. It is entirely unknown whether or not an organic body inhabits the armor, so any assumption of biology is unreliable. He does express human needs but apparently does not require food or drink to survive. According to his explanation, he can regulate his life force to store and use energy effectively, and he spends only a little amount of them to fulfil his needs, such as nutrients and air.

Capabilities

An analysis of the Crimson Wanderer's potential can be divided across his default form and his true form:

Default Form

  • Strength: Able to punch through walls and many other objects with ease.
  • Durability: His armor seems to be as strong as a modern battle tank.
  • Mobility: He tends to walk slowly, but can move faster than a cheetah if need be.
  • Abilities: The Crimson Wanderer seems able to regenerate his body and his tools if they ever get damaged. However, he still shows signs of survival instinct, suggesting that he may still fear death despite his supposed immortality. Apparently, he regenerates with the same technique of life-force manipulation that he uses to sustain his body.
True form of the Crimson Wanderer.

True Form

  • Strength: Smashing through vehicles and buildings with little to no effort.
  • Durability: Surviving heavy explosives and barely taking any damage.
  • Mobility: Much faster than in default form, with the highest observable speed around the supersonic level.
  • Abilities: The Crimson Wanderer generates a fiery aura during this form, with increasing heat and brightness depending on the energy level. His aura is apparently a projection of his own power and essence, which he can weaponize into a blast or beam to destroy his targets. The overall level of power varies between that of average explosives to nuclear bombs. His aura may grow and reshape into various forms, most commonly manifesting as a spectral avatar wielding various weapons. Due to their similar visuals and capabilities. Overusing the energy of his aura may lead to burnout and depletion of life force.

Relation to Entities

Crimson Portrait

In general, the Crimson Wanderer treats all beings like a warrior would. He does not seek needless bloodshed, but would not hesitate to attack and fight whenever he deemed necessary. The following is an analysis of his behavior towards other entities, based on our current knowledge.

  • Hubris: The Crownless King, also known as The Usurper, is an extremely powerful entity said to be after the "Crown of the Throne" in Level Alpha-Omega. But whether this is true or not, only time could tell.
  • King of Normality: Widely considered to be his rival, the King of Normality is said to be another enforcer of The Backrooms. But unlike the Crimson Wanderer, who wanders around slaughtering any threats deemed necessary to eliminate, the King of Normality instead mingles with other wanderers, making it hard to understand his nature or motivation.
  • The Storyteller: An entity that rules the Infinite Library and all its contents. The Crimson Wanderer seems to avoid the creature, and once said "Do not go to that thing, unless absolutely necessary; it is really not worth your life and sanity". This suggests that the entity may be equally if not more powerful than him.
  • Jester: An enigmatic entity theorized to be the "Jester of the Court", residing in Level Alpha-Omega as its guardian. The Crimson Wanderer finds the Jester to be an intriguing individual, and has a conflicting view of his nature, making it hard to describe their unique relationship.
  • The Keymaster: There are some claims of them interacting, possibly even working together. Both of them refuse to elaborate on what relationship or business they have with each other.
